AUTEL trains operators on virtual control room
In June 2019, AUTEL, a.s. modernized control system and speed measurement evaluation of TG3 turbine generator in Lenzing Biocel Paskov a.s. As the turbine generator downtime for the upgrade was very short, AUTEL programmers implemented a dynamic turbine generator model to debug the application software using the SIMIT simulation platform. The simulation proved to be very beneficial during the acceptance test (FAT) and the commissioning of the turbine generator took place without major problems in the required short term.
During the operation of the turbine generator, non-standard conditions can occur which require fast and efficient reaction of operators. Although operators are trained to handle the most common operating states, non-standard states that arise only sporadically are often surprising and can easily make mistakes when handling stress.
To help operators manage these isolated conditions with greater confidence and to avoid potential accidents, AUTEL employees have prepared a special training focused on effective procedures for managing non-standard conditions.
The training will be carried out periodically on a virtual control room realized using the simulation platform SIMIT and representing a dynamic model of the turbine generator. Operators have the opportunity to practically use the operator station to test the simulated turbo-generator responses to action. The aim of the training is to increase the professionalism of operators in handling and solving non-standard conditions of the turbogenerator, including its start-up and shutdown. The first training took place in September 2019 and others will continue with an annual frequency.
The training provided will help operators to routinely and practically manage turbine generator states, which appear only sporadically and which are trained in theory without the possibility of simulation. Professional handling of these non-standard conditions will increase the reliability of the turbine generator operation and prevent possible damage and outages.
