375 MW Turbine, Red Dragon, PIEM project, Chile
The South Korean company SK Engineering & Construction (SK E&C) builds a new block in the existing Mejillones Power Plant standing in the gulf on the shore of southern Pacific Ocean in the Chilean province of Antofagasta. The output of the block is planned to be 375 MWe. The turbine contractor is the Pilsen company DOOSAN ŠKODA POWER, s.r.o.
The power plant owned by IEM S.A. stands near the sea in a challenging salty environment. The wasteland area shows high seismicity and lies in the tsunami-risk zone. The existing power plant runs 5 blocks. It is a coal-fired plant with the highest output in Chile.
AUTEL, a.s. has received the statement from DOOSAN ŠKODA POWER, s.r.o. that their tender for the control and protection system of the turbine based on Siemens SPPA-T3000, including field instrumentation and cabling for delivery of their turbine had won.
Project termination and full operation is expected in 2018.
